West Virginia’s SOAR Initiative is led by the West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness. The goal is to increase access to the disability income benefit administered by the Social Security Administration for eligible adults who are homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness, and have a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorder.
Strong partnerships are a crucial aspect of the SOAR process within WV and we have been fortunate to have committed partnerships with SSA, Disability Determination Services (DDS), many community providers, and other state agencies. Without the many partnerships, we would not be able to implement the SOAR Initiative effectively and assist those in need.
For more information on case workers who are trained in SOAR, please contact Lauren Frederick, WV State Lead, at laurenfrederick@wvceh.org.
If a case worker at your agency is willing to assist people with the application process and is interested in completing the SOAR Training, they can find the online training here.
